MONDAY, - - NOVEMBER 26, 1894 THE FARAf FUTURE. The general depression in prices of all agricultural products has been caused simply by the fact that we produce mora than we can consume, and those nations which heretofore purchased our surplus have found other and cheaper sources of supply. It will be sometime before this evil is corrected but time will do it. The increase of population is steadily adding to the extent ot the home market and with our agricultural products main tained at their present limit, we would soon be able to consume all of our prod- ' nets. Heretofore the increase of produc tion has exceeded the Increase of popu lation compelling us to seek a foreign market for our , surplus. The limit of production has not been reached yet, but from this on, the increase of popula tion will exceed the increase of produc- . tion and surely, though slowly, tend to the betterment of the condition of the farmer. In this fact alone can be found hope for the agricultural interest. Lands are now cheap, cheaper than they ever will be again in this country, and he who ncquires real property in the shape of farming lands, will find himself possessed of property that will steadily enhance in value, and which will prove a blessing to his children. The land owner of fifty years from now will be on top of the heap socially and financially. Let our farmers not be discouraged, the long night is pasaing, and the dawning' of the day for them is not far distant. Theirs is the noblest of all callings, all pursuits, for next to God who gave us life, is the hard handed and toiling farmer who gives us the bread to sustain it. His lot has been a hard one, but his lines will yet fall in pleasant places. Mitchell News. ' Weeks have found me silent on ac count of ill health, principally, although there were minor causes that kept me quiet, such as vacating one house and moving into another. I know my friends nrill oivA l cnoH rf avmnotlir u'hpm t Vi p v e-- -j t - know I, too, have been afflicted with that dread complaint, home-moving, a very serious affliction I assure you, something I do not want to endure very olten. Since I wrote you last many improve ments bave been changing our little town into a very neat little village. One more high water and we well, I expect The Dalles will try to -hide its insignificance. ' ... . "A. sidewalk from Oaks' store to the barber shop in lower town accommo dates footmen, and sometimes horses, on their weary way from one town to the other. A printing office, that puts out an ex cellent sheet, the first of which was dis tributed among the citizens of town to day, is another improvement. It cornea out with good print, clean, newsy and spicy: one of the best papers in the county, and well worthy the name of Mitchell Monitor. One furniture shop is completed, and another fast nearing completion. A butcher shop is hut a few days old, but furnishes meat sufficient for the town. A barber shop accommodates those that are in need of head-grooming. The W. C. T. U. has organized here, with a membership of ten or twelve. Am sorry to say our literary society is a' thing of the past since the leader, Dr. Hemlock, has been caught in the meshes of matrimony. Perhaps by Christmas times he will have bad time to regain his accustomed composure to again fan into life the Mitchell literary society. Freezing weather has visited us, and to Buch an extent as to burst water pipes in town. E. V. E. Mitchell, Or., Nov. 21, 1894. ' PERSONAL MENTION. The . readers of this paper, will be pleased to learn that there is at least one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure in all its stages and that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Care is the only positive ciire now known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a con stitutional disease, requires a constitu tional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken internally, acting directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of the system, thereby destroying the founda tion of the disease, and giving the pa tient strength by building up the consti tution and assisting nature to do its work. The proprietors have so much faith in its cultivati ve powers, that they offer One Hundred Dollars for any case that it fails to cure. Send for list of Testimonals. Address. F. J.'
